fun & football!
haven’t watched much of Euro 2008. either been busy with something or been too tired to watch. managed to catch the germany vs turkey semis at ZC’s! really nice! the supper from far-away land, the teh tarik, the gossips from c*o*r, the long walk back, the PS3, the suppressed screams and more…oh, and the morning chatter…didn’t know so much is happening in other centres till yesterday..somewhat agree with PL that volunteering should be simpler without so much politics..keep things simple~!
shady scam
caught 40 winks on the morning train and met up with RD at aljunied for the job interview. another office with ulu location -.- had to take a cab to find the damn place. And even more damned is the “job”. They’re recruiting young people to collect donations and these people are paid for it! My gawd, that’s conning people in the name of charity and cheating people of their compassion! according to the ‘manager’, for whatever that’s collected, 25% will go to our pocket and 5% to the company, and 70% to the charity. Whispered to RD that I’m not interested in earning this type of money no matter how poor I am.
As i listen to the manager brief about the job (while on the bus to the first location for our apparent OJT), have to 忍+忍 because totally disagree with what they’re doing but I also don’t know where the bus is going. Finally, saw a familiar landmark and I blurt out my disagreement and told him that we’re not interested in doing this shit and it’s against our principles. Got off the bus and the ‘manager’ tried to justify what he and the rest are doing using his flawed comparison with how “some” charities operate. Not hearing any of those bollocks. He even challenged me and asked if i do any volunteer work and if I know how things work…I happen to do some and started to question some of his bullshit claims. And after much much debate, he finally gives up and left with his partners-in-crime (1 ah beng and 1 ah lian).
Quite an experience..First time encountering such shit interview and total waste of time. As i make my way back, saw one malay dude “collecting donation” at JE MRT station and the collection bag that he’s using is exactly the same as the one I saw at the company.
So beware if anyone who claims to be from XXX charity (usually some unknown charity) and even claims that he/she has the licensing from NCSS. The license might be real but who knows how much actually goes to the charity (much lesser than 70%). And imagine if they can give commission of 25% of the total collection to the young punks they hire, how much does the crook company pocket?
Then met up with my EID group mates for dinner at shokudo japanese food bazaar…Nice food, not exactly pricy nor cheap. Good place to hang out for gatherings with friends ba..even saw ah hui and gladys there when i was there haha. And as i reach home, concussed right till 2.30am for the Spain vs Russia match.
