is it april fool’s or is it april’s fool?

anyhow I just assume that it’s april fool’s. do you actually know how this stupid day came about?
I’m not sure if this is true but this is what i heard.

Long long time ago, the people always celebrate the start of the year on the 1st of April. Until one silly king decided that New Year should be celebrated on the 1st January instead. However, the news didn’t reach some people and they still continue to celebrate their new year on the 1st April. So people started to call these people “April’s fools” and slowly, it evolved into a day to celebrate the fools. Hence today’s April Fool’s Day.
