movies

watching movies is a luxury of time. better than gold. movies i’ve watched the past week:

Garden State

Garden State (2004)

Kento recommended this movie. I think it’s a good movie. Lighthearted and leaves some room for thought.

Okuribito

Okuribito (2008)

I think this movie won Best Foreign Film this year. Never mind the accolades, it’s a good movie, worthy of any award it garners. It’s heartwarming and provides a good insight into a profession most people shuns.

Bad Guy

Bad Guy a.k.a Nabbeun Namja (2001)

Another Kim Ki-duk’s work. It’s my second movie by this director after Mijung’s recommendation. The first was Shi-gan and it left me feeling very sombre. This one, I felt surprisingly calm at the end of the movie, which is not necessarily a good thing. Perhaps there are certain cultural attributes that are lost when viewing this movie using English subtitles, wish I could understand Korean though. I guess, this isn’t really my style of movie.

taken

Taken (2008)

Action-Thriller type of movie.

zeitgeist

Zeitgeist (2007)

A free-to-distribute movie that questions Christianity, the 9/11 and the global economy. It’s a good docu-movie that attempts to give you the other side of the coin through its carefully chosen theories and explanations. In my opinion, it’s a dangerous movie to watch if you’re not opinionated enough to make your own judgement.

tony-takitani

Tony Takitani (2004)

Based on Haruki Murakami’s short story, this movie is a delicate and intricately carved piece of art. It’s calm, it’s tranquil. He attempts to paint the world of loneliness that Haruki Murakami fabricates, and how beautifully he managed it. Love it or hate it.

寂寞不是因为身边没有很多人

寂寞是当你在这么多人当中找不到某种共鸣与默契

silence in the melody

Just finished watching Gran Torino. Another brilliant movie that left me in a turbulence of after-thoughts. This time, it’s a little different from the usual feeling that i get. It’s less fixated and less focused. But it probably bugs me twice as much as usual. I’m thinking the effect might not entirely be due to this film.

I’m slowly getting accustomed to the notion that certain movie only clicks when you’re in the appropriate mood during the day. On this day, Gran Torino is a brilliant movie. Clint Eastwood is masterclass!

Waiting for something is an uncomfortable process. Days have gone by with my indulgence in mundane monotony of work, I realised that I’ve lost count of the days and hours. At the start, I was counting with the enthusiasm of a child. Gradually, all but some of those dissipated into the vacuum emptiness that echoes between my ears. And the heart sinks as the footstep slows to the pace of directionless walking. Perhaps I’ve already lost sight of what’s ahead already.

for some good laidback music, Jason Reeves has got a good playlist.

procrastination is looking at others having a snow fight outside my window.

procrastination is tidying up my desk and messing it up again when I couldn’t find my keys.

procrastination is deciding that i will start studying when the sun sets at 3.

procrastination is deciding to do my laundry when i just done one 2 days ago.

procrastination is charging my phone when there are still 2 bars left.

procrastination is counting the number of times i blink per minute.

procrastination is … easier than studying swedish.

getting that bit of rubbish out of the way, the mind had a little more space to run.
I’ve been thinking…
到底怎么样才算真正地活过?
多少朋友可以跟你共欢乐?多少朋友可以跟你共患难?

been on youtube, 张学友,刘德华, songs with titles I never knew, but knowing every single word of the songs.

snow. the first real snow of the year. it was beautiful.
